Assessment & Consultation
Reformatting is almost never the first step in the life of a collection, but when a collection contains multiple media formats and condition issues, it can be difficult to identify where to start.
We can help by:
Taking an initial inventory of your collection.
Providing a condition assessment, based on visual inspection of sample items from each media format.
Flagging major issues and priority items, based on media format and our condition reports.
Researching the scarcity of items in your collection. For example, do you have the only recording of a significant event or performance? Or, if the collection is made up of commercial recordings, is the content significant because of the creators or the historical significance of the community that produced it?
Based on all these factors we will develop a matrix to identify priority objects for preservation based on the data. The next step is to start the digitization process.
